Woodpecker painting

This is a quick painting I did last spring. Painting without worrying about making every detail perfect was a great exercise. It adds life and feeling to the bird.

Youthful merimaids journal page and poem

I've been to sunny Utah and back during the past few weeks. Spent Thanksgiving with family, which was great after such a long absence. It's a holiday that I really miss, so I was glad for the chance to be able to celebrate it once again.

I've picked out a painting I made in one of my art journal books a couple months ago.

The poem is as follows:

youthful mermaids

where sunflowers grow and fairies fly
we crawl to the stars and turn our ears
to stories of nature
woven with power

you think it's unbelievable
hand in the blue, colors to enjoy
the night's legends of purple stone
that live in grace and marble

is this the closest we come?

I like the visual effect of the clipped lines on the page - they help create the breaks and pauses and of course, the alignment is free form which does affect the reading of the poem. It's lots of fun doing this, and I encourage you all to try your hand at it - with or without your own painting! :)

Sunshine days painting

I made a series of these paintings about a year ago. It has a mix of acrylic paint and water soluble crayons and graphite.
Lots of color and fun is the idea! I may need to do more of them soon again.

Up on the Rooftop Painting

Finally a brand new finished painting to show! This one is with acrylics on watercolor paper and was loads of fun to do. I have a feeling there will be many  more coming in a similar style soon!

Blueberries

I've made two version of the same blueberries about 3 years apart!;)

The first was watercolor.
And just recently, an acrylic version:
I like them both in different ways.  The acrylics are much more forgiving to work with, which is exactly what I need!!!

Journal Painting and Poem

This is a painting taken from one of the hand-sewn journals I made during this summer.

The lines of the poem I glued in have been edited slightly with the help of one of my Modpo pals, Mark Herron.

despite the interlude

the moon leaves the night
where the sweetest stories burn
as the northern summers
are woven into a breeze

a shadow plays in the sky
while little fires burn
and the magic air flies
to speak with nature

it seems so easy
the pleasure that holds me softly
but the facts reduce the night
to melancholy

Three Paintings

I did this series of paintings during the summer. I would call these three my favorite birds, but I think that might have to be an ever-expanding group. ;)

Blackbird

Bullfinch

Wagtail
All of these I gave away as a present, but I still have visitation rights. ;)
